Year 2017 is a new spring at Take Five Cookery’s Micro Farm. The Weather in Wethersfield has been, at best, uncooperative this year, but we have no control over that and  move on. Challenges are abound every year when you work an unofficial organic property, last year was the introduction of feral Cats in the barns that evidently used our raised beds as their personal rest area. We re-dug the first bed and replaced all the soil with a “Mel’s Mix blend (The Square Foot Gardener) and plan for carrots, radish, parsley and Cilantro, we also set a fence and cage to abate the cat issue. We have two More raised beds that need to be finished off, one will start our asparagus patch, and the second for delicate herbs such as sorrel, chervil and epazote.  I know this may sound absolutely ridiculous but in our largest plot, other than the knowledge of sq footage and area allowance for the yearly plant rotation, our rows are not close to being a finalized. In defense of this obvious flaw, Lisa and I planted everything again from seed and/or saved seeds. All the seedlings look healthy and happy, although some of the plants appear to be weeks in maturity behind others from the same origins. Our plan is to deposit between 100 and 115 tomato plants at best or less, depending on the Vitality rate. Remember weather has kept our soil under 60 degrees. We also are growing what we use on a daily basis in our cuisine. More tomorrow…
